Dear all,
If you haven’t climbed with us in a while, I thought we should let you know that we have changed most of the holds on the wall. Come try it out on the Thursday Session. There are now much more easier routes, as well as intermediate and extreme routes! So if you were new to climbing and thought you couldn’t climb, it was because it was hard to begin with!
Also we are having a committee change over on the same day. We will be making announcements near the end of the session, and will be discussing possible trips, competition and socials coming up this month. If you are interested in becoming part of the committee let one of us know. We aren’t going to have a one person one position policy, everyone should be involved in the decision process!
We will be celebrating the change-over at THE BEAR as well! So come along and know your fellow committee members. After 11pm, if you are up for the night out; we can meet up with the EXTREME SPORTS CLUB at Belushi’s. Check out the facebook event link on http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=126209767456508
We’ll try our best to keep emailling you regulary! Otherwise keep checking the facebook group or on our website http://brightonclimbers.co.uk/news-2/ for the latest news!

Now that Easter Break is over, its time to climb and shed those easter eggs off our belly. We can assume that the climbing sessions on Monday and Thursday are back to normal from Thursday 5th May 2011. Remember that Monday sessions are from 7.30pm-9.00pm and Thursday sessions are from 7.00pm-9.00pm at the Cockcroft Sports Centre.
[1] Committee Changes on Thursday 5th May 2011
Also we will be undergoing changes to the committee and will be announcing it on our Thursday climbing session (5th May) and celebrating it at the Bear Pub from 9.00pm (word has it that our first drink will be free, and of course we will be fed there). The following candidates will be taking on the following roles:
President: Jake White
Vice President: Lucien Douglas Green
Secretary: Lucien Douglas Green
Treasurer: Emily Knight
Social Sec: Jake Gillbard
Competition Officer: Jake White
Trip Officer:Toby Leckie
Kit Officer: Theo Davies
Health & Saftey Officer: Lucien Douglas-Green
Remember that anyone can be a part of the committee, so long you have enthusiasm, commitment and the skills to lead and follow a team. The plus side of it, is that it will look good in your CV, and make you more employable in the future. If you are interested to be apart of the committee let us know!
[2] Great News!
On Wednesday 6th April 2011, the Brighton and Hove City Council Planning Committee has granted approval for the Brighton Climbing Centre development at the old Flexer Sacks factory in Portslade. Check out their website: http://www.brightonclimbingcentre.co.uk/
[3] Socialwise
The Extreme Sports Club [ESC] is holding a “End of year Army Mash-Up!” on Thursday 5th May from 9pm. Check out the facebook event on http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=126209767456508 for more details.
Anyway that is all for now, hope you are not stressed with all the exams or coursework. Remember its good for you to throw away your stress by climbing with us more regularly!

Hello Climbers!
All sports activities at the Cockcroft Sports Centre will be closed for examinations , meaning that there won’t be any climbing on the Monday/Thursday sessions:
Monday 24th January
Thursday 27th January
Monday 31st January
Thursday 3rd February
But never fear! We have decided that we will definately have climbing sessions on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s until examinations are over. i.e. we are definately climbing on
Wednesday 26th January
Saturday 29th January
Wednesday 2nd February
Saturday 5th February
On Wednesday’s we will be meeting up at 1pm at the Student Union Cafe (Ground floor of the Cockcroft Building) and we will climbing at either K2 Climbing Centre in Crawley or Shoreham Climbing Centre depending on transport (if you have a car, take it with you!).
On Saturdays, it will be just like Wednesday’s, except we will be meeting at the main entrance to the Cockcroft Building at 1pm
Please note, the Wednesdays and Saturdays climbs are for experienced climbers. You must be able to tie knots, use various climbing gear and know how to belay people.
Oh by the way check out this link to our forum. Help us support for the plans for a NEW climbing centre in BRIGHTON!!!!
Thats all for now!

Hey folks,
First off, the UBMC would like to wish you all a happy new year. Did you get what you wanted for Christmas? Lets hope that your New Years resolution is burning off all that turkey at climbing ^_^
Anyways, there has been speculation whether or not climbing sessions are on this week (Monday 3rd & Thursday 6th January). To be honest with you we are not sure. But everything should be as normal starting from Monday 10th January 2011.
I would say, from now on check our news page more often than relying on our massive email updates; which sometimes takes a while for some people to receive. We will try and keep you up to date with our events on this website and the facebook page
That will be all for now!

Shopping at Cotswold on Monday night was fantastic. We were greeted with red/white/rose wine with lots of snacks. The staff were very helpful and they totally devoted their time to help us get what we wanted. With the exclusive 20% discount, it was a no brainer! We are looking forward to another night shop at Cotswold in the near time future (maybe around January/February)!
Still you can get 15% off any other time so as long as you bring your UBMC membership cards!

This is the message they would like me to forward to you all enthusiastic climbers:

Maps and books are excluded from the deal. Payment can be by cash, credit or debit card. The deal applies to goods you buy during the week or what you order for later collection.

Now that Taster Sessions are over, we will be more focused in climbing, and will be teaching you gradually the essential skills in climbing. You will be learning how to tie knots, how to belay, and how to put on a harness. Hopefully we get to use the new kit that we are getting this week!
New people can still turn up to our climbing sessions. Everybody is still welcome to try out the climbing wall once, before purchasing membership with us. Membership with UBMC is now £10.00 and Everybody must purchase a Sports Federation Card (category B) which is also £10.00.
We are going to go walking around Lewes on Saturday 23rd of October 2010. Unfortunately tomorrow (Sat. 16th October 2010) is too short noticed for a walk. But more info will be told on Monday’s Session!
